The issues we face in NZ

Kiwis are pretty proud of our water, and for good reason - on the whole, it's better than most of the world. But "better than most" isn't the same as "clean," and the reality is that what comes out of your tap depends a lot on where you live.

Most council supplies are treated with chlorine (and sometimes chloramine) to kill bacteria. That does the job, but it also means you're drinking and showering in a low dose of disinfectant every day. Around 40% of the country also gets fluoride added to the supply - a topic Kiwis have strong feelings about either way.

Then there's what the treatment plants don't fully catch. Nitrates from dairy and farm runoff are a growing issue, especially in Canterbury and parts of the Waikato. PFAS - the "forever chemicals" - have shown up near old firefighting sites. Heavy metals like lead and copper can leach from older household plumbing. And if you're on tank or bore water, you're managing all of this yourself.

Why is RO the leading filtration?
