We have two options for removing Nitrates from the tap water. These are both highly effective Reverse Osmosis systems.

Across New Zealand, nitrate levels in drinking water have quietly reached alarming levels. In many rural and even semi-urban areas, nitrate concentrations exceed 10 mg/L, a level that’s increasingly linked to serious long-term health risks, including colon cancer and birth complications.

This growing issue highlights why clean, properly filtered water is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity.

Nitrates - Major Concern for Health

There is a well-established link between elevated nitrate exposure and increased risk of preterm (premature) birth, especially when nitrates come from drinking water.

These can convert into nitrites, which interfere with how oxygen moves through the blood, these are particularly dangerous for infants (known as “blue baby syndrome”) but also concerning for adults.

Research from New Zealand and Europe has linked high nitrate levels in drinking water to an increased risk of colorectal (colon) cancer - even at levels well below the current New Zealand drinking water standard of 11.3 mg/L.

Put simply: even “legal” levels might not be safe.
Long-term exposure can silently burden your body - affecting energy, digestion, and overall wellbeing.

I Have high Nitrate levels, will these systems work?

Yes, both the Smart RO and RO Mineral + are high effective at removing Nitrates.

What is the flow rate?

1.4L - 2L per min

Both systems are designed for ultra pure water, this water is used for drinking/cooking (consumption).

How does it clean my water?

Stage 1 – PPC: Polyspun sediment + 1000 value Coconut Carbon block
Stage 2 – RO: RO membrane 600GPD
Stage 3 – CM: Carbon + Mineralize
Nitrates are removed via a high-pressure membrane that only allows pure water molecules to pass. This is then flushed to the waste water line.

It the water still healthy?

Yes. The RO mineral+ and Smart RO system both have a full stage dedicated to nourishing and polishing the water. This adds essential minerals and balances pH to slightly alkaline. This is crucial for adequate human hydration and health.

Filter changes?

For the RO Mineral + Simply unscrew the filter case, remove the old element and insert the new one. In an effort to reduce our plastic waste we continue to adopt new designs. We reuse the filter outer/casing for this system.

The Smart RO has two filters, both easy access from the front panel. Very simple to change.
