We didn't start Hydrate Filters to sell filters.
It started with what Nick saw on the job.
It started in construction
Nick spent years working in construction…
and saw first-hand what actually runs through pipes.
Not the clean, clear water people imagine,
but buildup, ageing infrastructure, and things most people never think about.
That’s what sparked it.
If that’s what the pipes look like… what’s actually coming out the tap?
So we went down the rabbit hole.
And the more we looked into water filtration…
- every system claimed to be “the best”
- no one explained things simply
- what were we even looking at here?
- why is everything big and an eyesore?
We realised pretty quickly:

Simple, stylish and highly effective.
Trying to do both didn’t work
We were still running our construction business when Hydrate started.
At first, we tried to do both.
Long days at the yard,
then late nights working on Hydrate.
We told ourselves we could make it work.
But the reality was:
it was stressful
it was constant
and it wasn’t the life we actually wanted
Especially with two young boys.
So we had a decision to make. Keep going the way we were…
or back what we actually cared about.
We chose Hydrate.
We sold everything.
And with that came a bigger shift too,
we sold everything, simplified life, and travelled to Thailand.
Not to escape…
but to spend more time together while our boys are still young,
and build something we genuinely believe in.
What Hydrate is actually about
Hydrate isn’t about selling you “a filter”.
It’s about making water filtration simple.
Because what we realised early on is this:
- different systems do different jobs
- more expensive doesn’t always mean better
- and most people are either oversold… or left confused
We didn’t like that.
So everything we do is built around:
clear, honest advice
simple systems that actually make sense
and helping you choose what’s right for your water.
Not just the most expensive.
We took it on the road
We now temporarily run Hydrate while travelling with our boys,
spending more time together while they’re young.
And along the way, we’ve tested our systems in all sorts of water conditions.
(Some very questionable haha)
We're not perfect!
We’re still learning too.
We don’t believe there’s one “best system” for everyone,
because water is different everywhere.
What we will always do is:
- give honest advice
- tell you what you do (and don’t) need
- and help you make the right call for your home.
